MI Station Hours Reduced Due to FF Shortage

Feb. 1, 2024
Walker Station 3 will not be staffed overnights during the week or on weekends.

A shortage of paid on-call firefighters in Walker has forced the fire department to no longer operate on nights and weekends at one of its stations.

The full-time staff leaves at 6 p.m. and does not take calls at that location until 6 the next morning during the week, WOOD8 reported.

“We’d only get one, maybe two responders. It became an unsafe situation to have them pull a huge apparatus out of the station, so we combined what we were left of Station 3 personnel on paid on call moved them to Station One at Remembrance and Wilson Avenue,” Chief David Pelton said.
